NOW YOU KNOW THE 2 BASIC STITCHES IN KNITTING,THE KNIT STITCH AND THE PURL STITCH.
HOW TO USE THEM TOGETHER TO MAKE RIBBING.
Ribbing is usually, but not always, used at the bottom of a garment, at the cuffs and at the neck. It's also good to use when you want both sides of the fabric to look the same like for a scarf or blanket.
It's usually K2P2 (knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches) but it could be K1K1 or K2P3 or any variation.
Make sure you have an even number of stitches on your needle. For practice, knit a few rows in stockinette stitch then start your ribbing. TIP: This will be easier for the beginner than starting ribbing after the cast on.
Knit 2 stitches, pull the yarn in front and Purl 2 stitches, put the yarn in back, Knit 2 stitches, pull the yarn in front. Continue this way to the end of the row. When you turn it around the first 2 stitches should be knit. If not, you have 2 extra stitches. Get rid of them by knitting or purling together. TIP: Remember this is only practice and it doesn't have to look perfect this time.
